Managed Deep Agents explained in 2 minutes

What it covers

This video explains Managed Deep Agents (MDA), a platform that lets developers define an agent's intelligence while MDA handles the underlying runtime and deployment infrastructure. It covers the two core components — the Deep Agents harness and the managed LangSmith Agent Server runtime — in roughly two minutes.

The outline

Every point the video makes, in the order it makes them.

  1. 01

    MDA Overview

MDA is presented as the simplest way to build and deploy production agents, separating what the agent does from how it runs.

  2. 02

    Agent Intelligence

Developers define the agent's instructions, the tools it can call, the skills it follows, and select the driving model.

  3. 03

    Deep Agents Harness

The harness provides the agent loop that plans, calls tools, manages a filesystem, and delegates work to subagents.

  4. 04

    Managed Runtime

Every deployment runs on LangSmith Agent Server, giving developers the Agent Server API, threads, runs, streaming, and an MCP endpoint without operating the server themselves.

  5. 05

    Learning Resources

The video points viewers to LangChain Academy Module 6, a recorded MDA Virtual Workshop, and the official MDA documentation for further study.

The hard part moved downstream

The harness abstracts tools, skills, and memory, so the logic layer stops being the bottleneck for a solo builder. What remains is the production surface — sandbox execution, permissions, state management, multi-agent coordination — the work that usually demands a platform team. A single CLI deploy doesn't erase that complexity, but it makes the boundary between building the agent and running it in the world legible enough to attempt alone.
